Digital storytelling can be a powerful learning tool for teachers and students alike.
With the presence and increasing accessibility of digital tools in the classroom, it is no wonder that students are ever-more encouraged to demonstrate understanding and craft their learning journeys with a combination of written and audio-visual products.
Nonetheless, while there is an increasing need for visual awareness to uncover deeper meanings in multimodal text, the act of producing and revising rich visual material is often overlooked, be it for a lack of time, or proper skills on the part of users.
To make the most of their photo devices in the classroom to document learning, as well as to guide students in their individual documentation process, teachers and coaches may want to learn more about the essentials of composition in photography, with a focus on visual literacy.
The presentation below, on offer at the 29th Annual CEESA Conference, highlights key ideas and examples of how to add value to the act of photographing for learning. I hope it is useful for you and your students!
